Competition Rules

 

1. The Promoter is Tongaat Hulett Sugar (Pty) Ltd (“The Promoter”).

2. The competition is open to all South African Residents above the age of 18, who are in possession of a valid identity document. Directors, members, partners, employees, agents or consultants of or any other person who directly or indirectly control or are controlled by The Promoter or marketing service providers in respect of the promotional competition, or the spouses, life partners, business partners or immediate family members may not enter.

3. The baker with the most votes from visitors at the Innibos Festival will walk away with the title of Huletts Koeksister Champion 2018 as well as a R100 000 cash prize.

4. This competition starts on 1 April and closes on 14 May 2018. Any entries received after midnight on the last day will not be valid and will not be considered.

5. To enter: Send us a colour photograph to showcase your koeksisters, tell us what sets your recipe apart and what you will do with the prize money if you are the winner. Email your entry to info@mpmarketing.co.za; or post to: Huletts Koeksister Champion 2017, P.O. Box 84655, Greenside, 2034. Closing date is 14 May 2018.

6. The Promoter is not liable for the failure of any technical element relating to this promotional competition that may result in an entry not being successfully received. Unclear or illegible entries will be declared invalid.

7. The judging panel, including members of The South African Chefs Association (SACA) and members of The South African Women’s Agricultural Union (SAWAU), as appointed by The Promoter, will read and evaluate each entry received and select 15 semi-finalists. Selections will be based on merit as judged by the judges at their sole discretion.

8. The 15 semi-finalists will be informed telephonically on 16 May and will be requested to produce a dozen (12) of their koeksisters for final judging. These koeksisters must contain any one of The Promoter’s products. The Promoter will purchase these koeksisters from the semi-finalists and will also take care of all necessary arrangements and/or costs to collect/deliver the semi-finalists koeksisters. Koeksisters must be prepared and be ready for collection/delivery by 21/22 May. If, however, in the event that any of the semi-finalists cannot be successfully contacted following all reasonable attempts to do so with the details supplied, The Promoter reserves the right to select another finalist as substitution.

9. The judging panel, including members of The South African Chefs Association (SACA) and members of The South African Women’s Agricultural Union (SAWAU), as appointed by The Promoter, will taste and evaluate each semi-finalists koeksisters based on the following criteria, which will add up to a maximum of 50 points:

9.1. Appearance - Twists/braids evenly and discernibly plaited, colour – rich and golden (20 points).

9.2. Taste - Level of sweetness and balance of flavours (20 points).

9.3. Syrup - A good, smooth and clear syrup consistency (10 points).

9.4. Texture - hardness/softness - must have a good balance (5 points).

9.5. Innovation/Traditional representation (5 points).

SACA’s auditors will oversee and verify this judging process.

10. Three (3) finalists will be selected. Selections will be based on merit as judged by the judges and will be at their sole discretion. The three (3) finalists will be notified by telephone on the 30th May, and thereafter this will be confirmed in writing. The three finalists will also be formally announced on Jacaranda FM.

11. Each of the 3 finalists wins a trip to the Innibos Festival valued at R6 000.

12. Each finalist must pre-produce 3300 of their koeksisters and deliver these to the Innibos festival grounds on the 26 June. The Promoter will purchase these koeksisters from each finalist and will also cover cost of delivery.

12.1. These koeksisters must contain at least one of The Promoter’s products.

12.2. The Promoter will provide secured, cold storage for all koeksisters during the course of the Innibos Festival.

12.3. Each finalist will have the option to produce their own koeksisters or alternatively their recipe may be reproduced by members of the SAWAU on their behalf.

13. During the course of the 4-day Innibos festival, a total of 3300 (±825 per day) festival visitors will have the opportunity to sample and vote (for free) for their best tasting koeksister.

14. The Innibos Huletts Koeksister Champion 2018 voting station will open on the 27 June and close on the 30 June. Rules at the voting station:

14.1. The three finalists’ koeksisters will be represented by three different colours (i.e. red, blue & white).

14.2. A voter must taste one of each of the koeksisters and vote on a colour.

14.3. A ballot will be provided to each voter and the voter will indicate their vote by marking (with an X) next to the colour representing his/her best tasting koeksister.

14.4. One vote per festival-goer, per day.

14.5. Voting stations will be open daily between 13:00 - 16:00 pm.

14.6. Stabilis Incorporated Auditors, Nelspruit will oversee and verify tallying of the votes.

15. The Huletts Koeksister Champion 2018 will be announced on 30 June at the Innibos Festival and the cash prize of R100 000 will be awarded to one of the three finalists on the day.

16. Prizes are non-transferable. The Promoter reserves the right to substitute prizes of equal or greater value at any time. The Promoter reserves the right to request that images taken of the finalist or staff be used for publicity purposes in any manner they deem fit, without any further remuneration being made payable to the winner.

17. The Promoter shall have the right to terminate the competition immediately and without notice for any reason beyond its control requiring this. In the event of such termination, all participants agree to waive any rights that they may have in terms of this competition and acknowledge that they will have no recourse against The Promoter, its agents and staff.

18. Participation in the competition constitutes acceptance of the competition rules and entrants agree to abide by the rules except in so far as is provided for in the Act 68 of 2008, the judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
