Spaghetti Bolognaise

Serves 4-6



30ml (2T) olive oil
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 carrot, grated
500g lean beef mince
60ml (4T) red wine
1 can chopped tomatoes
15ml (1T) tomato paste
salt and pepper
15ml (1T) Huletts White Sugar
30ml (2T) fresh parsley, thyme, oregano- chopped
500g spaghetti, or pasta of your choice
100g cheddar cheese, grated
fresh basil for garnish



  1. Heat 30ml olive oil in a large saucepan. Sauté the onion, garlic, carrot, and beef mince until lightly browned.
  2. Add the red wine, can of tomatoes and tomato paste.
  3. Season with salt, pepper and sugar.
  4. Add the herbs. Leave to simmer for 40 minutes over low heat.
  5. In the meantime, cook spaghetti as directed on the packet.
  6. Spoon a portion of pasta onto a dinner plate and top with the Bolognaise sauce. Serve with grated cheddar cheese.

Option: Mix the pasta with flavour-some cheesy white sauce.
