Ukukhanyakufikile Primary School
An environment conducive to learning is bound to have a positive impact on pupils and teachers. This was the aim of Huletts’ parent company, Tongaat Hulett in 2014, when the company allocated approximately R1 057 000 toward infrastructural upgrades at Ukukhanyakufikile Primary School in Empangeni.
The funds went towards the construction of three classrooms and a kitchen, which cater to the school’s 316 pupils and 12 teachers.
At the official handover event in September 2015, excited pupils, parents and school staff gathered to inaugurate the new amenities. The event was also attended by representatives from Huletts’ parent company, Tongaat Hulett, the Department of Education; Mzimela traditional council and local sugarcane growers.
