Boston Baked Beans



15 ml (1 T) oil
½ packet bacon, chopped
1 large onion, finely sliced
1 tin baked beans
1 tin red kidney beans, drained
62 ml (¼ C) Huletts molasses
5 ml (1 t) salt
2 ml (¼ t) ground black pepper
15 ml (1 T) prepared mustard
125 ml (½ C) tomato sauce
62 ml (¼ C) Huletts brown sugar
125 ml (½ C) water



  1. Heat oil and fry onions and bacon together till the onions are soft and pale brown.
  2. Put the beans, Huletts molasses, salt, pepper, mustard, tomato sauce, brown sugar and water into a large casserole dish. Add the onion and bacon and gently mix together.
  3. Place lid on casserole and bake in preheated oven at 120ºC for ±2 hours.
  4. Ideal for outdoor entertaining such as braais.
