Spicy Pears

Makes ± 2 litres



1,5 kg firm ripe pears
500 ml water
10 cloves
25 g fresh root ginger, peeled and sliced
500 ml vinegar
400 g (500 ml) Huletts SunSweet Brown Sugar
1 cinnamon stick



  1. Peel the pears, cut in half and core.
  2. Bring the water to the boil and add cloves, ginger, vinegar, brown sugar and cinnamon stick.
  3. Place pears in syrup and poach together for 10 minutes.
  4. Remove pears with a slotted spoon and pack into sterilised jars.
  5. Boil the liquid for another 20 minutes.
  6. Pour over pears to cover, seal.

Delicious with cheese or pork.
