Tongaat Hulett is proud to have taken part in a special COVID-19 school initiative. This giving back drive saw the fumigation of Mbonisweni primary school and Nkosibomvu high school in Tongaat.
The school governing bodies identified classes and offices as potential hotspots. A total of 43 classrooms and 13 offices, including staff rooms and storerooms were fumigated and sanitised. Huletts believes that sanitisation is vital and will go a long way in limiting the spread of the virus within schools.
Nkosibomvu high school has an enrolment of 2 340 learners while Mbonisweni has 1 358 learners. The Department of Basic Education in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) has 2 800 000 learners on their system. In June, 364 000 learners in Grade 7 and 12 learners went back to school. A further 2 100 000 learners are expected to go back to school on the 6 July 2020.
The company further donated 1 500 cloth masks in seven schools in the following district Municipalities: eThekwini, uMkhanyakude, Ilembe and the Darnall/Groutville area. Each learner has been allocated two cloth masks. Tongaat Hulett is proud to be working with the Nodunga restitution project on this initiative. As with sanitation, the use of masks will assist learners to protect one another and reduce the overall school and community transmission.
We believe this small act of kindness will assist our children to continue to learn in a safe and clean environment. A little Huletts sweetness goes a long way.
