How Tongaat Hulett Is Investing in Tomorrow’s Agricultural Leaders
Tongaat Hulett is committed to helping youth realise their potential by creating opportunities to gain hands-on experience, industry exposure and professional guidance. Through bursaries, mentorship, work integrated learning and graduate placements, the next generation develops the skills and confidence to transition into the workplace, and build rewarding careers within the business and industry.
Educating the Next Generation of Agricultural Leaders
Through its long-standing bursary programme at Owen Sithole Agricultural College, Tongaat Hulett has supported more than 80 students from sugarcane-growing communities. Beyond financial support, students receive mentorship, workplace experience and practical training that prepare them to become the next generation of agricultural professionals.
Building Skills That Last a Lifetime
Tongaat Hulett’s artisan training programmes focus on scarce skills including Electrical, Millwright, Instrumentation and Fitting & Turning. Through three years of paid apprenticeships, learners gain practical experience alongside technical training. These elements collectively foster environments where local professionals thrive and build lasting careers.
Growing Communities Alongside the Industry
Real impact happens when opportunity is shared. By investing in education, practical skills and community partnerships, Tongaat Hulett is doing more than developing talent. It is helping build stronger communities, supporting local growth and creating a future where both people and the sugar industry can thrive together.
