Ahead of Youth Day, Tongaat Hulett paid a visit to the bright young minds at the Mangosuthu University of Technology, Isinyabusi Technical School and learners from the Engonyameni community. These visits were part of the institution’s respective career exhibitions and our efforts to grow a sweet future for the youth in our community.
Our visits kicked off on the 4th and 5th of May when our trusted Capability and Talent Team spoke to students at the Mangosuthu University of Technology. Being part of the expo was an exciting opportunity for Tongaat Hulett to engage with students about what the world of work is about, what we offer in terms of our careers, what we look for in our talent, and also to familiarise them with our products. The enthusiasm that students of various disciplines showed us, made the day extra special as this was the first career fair we attended post-COVID. We’d like to thank our team, Sharlene Narraidu (Capability & Talent Specialist), Siwe Sithole (Talent Coordinator), and Mlungisi Ngubane who is now permanently employed as an Assistant Centrifugal Operator, for representing us and giving students a glimpse of the opportunities that await them at Tongaat Hulett.
The following day, the General Manager of Amatikulu Mill, Mfundo Sithole, headed to the rural areas alongside the north coast of KZN for a career expo hosted by Ikusaselihle NPO at Isinyabusi Technical School. He was accompanied by Siboniso Lukhele and Gugu Sithole from the Human Capital Department, Siyabonga Buthelezi from the Engineering Department, and Zama Nkosi and Precious Dube from the SHE Department to share their experiences with Grade 12 learners to encourage them to do the best for their future.
Our third visit led us to the Engonyameni Career Day, organised by the Busi M Foundation, who partners with corporates and educational institutions in order to help children in their communities make better career choices and further assist with financial support when they are at tertiary institutions. This year, the Tongaat Hulett Warehouse Manager Cebile Maharaj, was honoured to motivate and speak to learners of the Engonyameni community about careers at Tongaat Hulett.
Having this platform to support youth and expose them to opportunities that await them really is so special for Tongaat Hulett. Visit our social media channels for more #GrowingASweetFuture updates.
