On Friday, 5 December 2025, PROTEC Tongaat hosted its Annual Awards Day at the Tongaat Secondary School Hall, bringing together learners, parents, educators and partners to celebrate achievements across the Saturday School programme.

Learners also took to the stage with poetry, music and dance which added energy to the day. The event was hosted by Sbonga Mthethwa, a PROTEC post-school learner who has recently completed his Mechanical Engineering qualification at DUT. It was a powerful full-circle moment.

Awards were presented across a range of categories, recognising learners not only for academic performance but also for consistency, commitment and effort. The class of 2025 has made us incredibly proud. We are thrilled to celebrate a 100% matric pass rate, with all learners qualifying for university admission. While there were fewer distinctions in Mathematics and Physics due to reduced contact learning time, the overall success reflects the resilience of our learners and the dedication of our tutors.
Special congratulations go to learners achieving distinctions:

  • 5 Distinctions: Ndlovu Nomvelo Michelle, Vilakazi Anele Lydia
  • 4 Distinctions: Brijnath Dashil, Mbanda Siyamthanda Vusumuzi, Mbewa Owami, Mnyandu Nokubonga, Msibi Noxolo
  • Subject Distinctions: Mathematics – 3, Physical Science – 1, English – 8

This milestone also marks 34 years of partnership with Tongaat Hulett Sugar, investing in young people and inspiring hope for a brighter future. Congratulations to every learner recognised and to those still working towards their moment, your dedication matters.

In celebrating our long partnership  of  34  years with PROTEC, Tongaat Hulett took on The PROTEC Painting Project. Seeing the need for a refresh, we supported the repainting of PROTEC’s facilities to help create a brighter, cleaner and more welcoming environment for both learners and staff. A fresh coat of paint may seem small, but it carries a powerful message: that these learners are seen, valued and worthy of beautiful spaces where they can grow, learn and dream.
