At Tongaat Hulett, Growing A Sweet Future is about building meaningful partnerships and giving back in ways that truly matter. This May, we took two opportunities to engage with the community of Mandeni.

We reached a significant milestone as we embarked on the second phase of our Madala Day celebrations in Mandeni. Together with the Socio-Economic Department, we identified and honoured beneficiaries over the age of 75 in the Matikulu cane-catchment area. It was a deeply moving experience to share moments of joy with the elders of this community, offering them packs of Huletts Sugar, biscuits, and blankets as tokens of appreciation for their invaluable wisdom and unwavering resilience. Huletts extends heartfelt gratitude to the tribal council, particularly iNkosi Mathonsi, for their presence and support during this special occasion.

GROWING A SWEET FUTURE IN MANDENI

Huletts’ journey with Mandeni has been a story of growth and resilience. Through proactive engagement with local traditional leadership councils, we strengthened our partnership and built a more harmonious community. We developed a recruitment protocol that prioritises transparency and fairness, ensuring that processes align with the aspirations of the community. Central to this initiative, has been the five exceptional Community Liaison Officers (CLOs) who have tirelessly championed the cause of local employment and integrity in recruitment. Their dedication and professionalism have not gone unnoticed, earning praise from both traditional leadership councils and the Huletts mill management. We are immensely grateful for their commitment to a shared vision of empowerment and collaboration.

We are filled with a profound sense of gratitude for the Mandeni community. Your trust, support, and partnership have been the driving force behind our work. Together, we are truly #GrowingASweetFuture.
