In April 2024, a remarkable partnership was created between Tongaat Hulett, Servest, and the iThuba Centre, with one clear purpose: to empower the youth of Tongaat. This collaboration initiated a 12-month security learnership programme for ten unemployed young individuals, providing them with invaluable skills and opportunities that can change their lives forever.
We’re happy to report that over the past eight months, nine of these young participants from Magwaveni, Hambanathi, and Newtown have successfully completed their level 3 training, engaged in both theoretical and on-the-job training and are now preparing to progress to Level 4 training soon.
What makes this learnership truly extraordinary is the promise it holds beyond the training. Upon graduation in March 2025, Servest has committed to providing employment opportunities for these young graduates, ensuring that the skills they’ve gained translate into tangible, life-changing outcomes. Servest has also agreed to welcome another group of 10 unemployed youth for the 2025/26 season, further extending this opportunity to the next generation.
As we prepare to celebrate these graduates and welcome the next cohort, the festive season gives us a moment to reflect on these achievements, and reminds us that every step taken to empower our youth is an investment in the future of our communities.
