At Tongaat Hulett, growing a sweet future goes beyond sugar, it’s about uplifting communities, empowering people and investing in the next generation. Through three recent meaningful initiatives across KwaZulu-Natal, Huletts continues to create lasting impact where it matters most.
Raising Scholar Awareness
In eNtumeni, northern KZN, the Tongaat Hulett Amatikulu team donated soccer and netball kits and facilitated educational campaigns across various schools in the area. Our team taught learners about the realities of sugarcane farming and encouraged safe behaviours. Through scholar awareness programs like these, Huletts is helping shape informed, responsible future custodians of these communities, while building strong, sustainable relationships with the next generation.
Grower Extension Support
Behind every successful harvest is a network of dedicated people. Tongaat Hulett Extension Officers continue to support small-scale growers with training and advisory services, even through challenging off-crop periods. Their work ensures that growers are ready for the milling season, sustaining livelihoods and strengthening rural economies. With over 1 million tons delivered last season, these growers are not only driving agricultural success but also creating jobs and supporting families, proving that true growth is shared.
Nkumbuleni Trust Beneficiaries
In Camperdown, Huletts brought together beneficiaries of the Nkumbuleni Trust to close off the 2025 milling season with knowledge-sharing and connection. Even at 65 and above, many of the attendees were in high spirits, as stories of land restitution and progress were shared. Supporting over 3 600 beneficiaries across 17 communities, with a strong representation of women, this initiative reflects Huletts’ deep commitment to inclusive development and empowering communities through land and agriculture.
