This past Mandela Day, Tongaat Hulett partnered with the Eyethu Trust to host a sports day for children from five local schools in Kranskop and donated essential school items to learners at KwaMondi Full Service Primary School in Eshowe and Klwana Combined School in Pongolo.

As part of our ongoing partnership with the Eyethu Trust, Tongaat Hulett committed to supporting children from 5 local schools in the Kranskop area. With the 18th of July being Mandela’s birth date, each school was asked to recommend 18 learners in need of a full school uniform. 90 children were identified and received their new uniforms on Tuesday, 31st July. To make the handover event even more meaningful, we organised a joint sports day, bringing together secondary and primary schools for a day of friendly competition and shared joy. Soccer and netball games were played, with the winning teams receiving full sports kits.

On the 18th of July, Tongaat Hulett visited KwaMondi Full Service Primary School and donated 100 pairs of school shoes to the learners. The school is led by Principal Mr SL Zulu and has 500 learners, 15 educators, and a total of 23 staff members. Beyond academics, KwaMondi Full Service Primary offers a range of opportunities for students to develop skills and talents in areas such as reading, spelling, coding, robotics, and mental exercises. The school also offers sports like netball, soccer, and cultural activities that educate children about their heritage. We are honoured to have been able to support these wonderful kids in taking steps towards a brighter future.

On 19 July 2024, Tongaat Hulett visited Klwana Combined School, located in the deep rural area of Babanango within the Umzinyathi District. Under the leadership of Principal Thamsanqa Dludla, the school serves 1,084 learners, including 337 matriculants. Despite the challenges associated with its remote location, Klwana Combined School has earned a reputation for academic excellence. To further support the school’s mission, Tongaat Hulett sponsored 400 school ties, and 50 pairs of shoes for students in need, and surprised the school with new signage.

Through partnerships with organisations land direct support to schools, we are working to create a future where every child has the opportunity to thrive.
