Tongaat Hulett celebrated World Food Day in Mngampondo, Empangeni on the north coast of Kwa-Zulu Natal by delivering food parcels to our cherished community.

In collaboration with the Red Cross, we brought essential food parcels to needy families in Ndlangubo, ensuring that those who are most vulnerable received the support they need.  It was a special moment to see Chief Mandlenkosi Biyela speak on the importance of empowering the community, reaffirming our shared commitment.

Our partnership with Mngampondo community began in 2014 when we partnered with the Mngampondo co-operative, the Ndlangubo Traditional Council, and The Jobs Fund, to launch an irrigation project. It focused on supporting sustainable sugarcane farming and tackling key issues such as poverty, unemployment, and social well-being in the community.

Today, the Mngampondo co-operative proudly runs a commercial vegetable garden, supplying fresh produce to national retailer SPAR. It’s a testament to the strength of our local partnerships and the resilience of the community.

While World Food Day was a special occasion, our commitment to growing a brighter and sweeter future extends far beyond. Tongaat Hulett  remains focused on providing support for sustainable growth and lasting change.
